Every day millions of people arrive at their desk in the morning only to let out a great big sigh as they are met by the same old stationery. Whether you use lots of pens and pencils, post it notes and notebooks, or even folders and ring binders, having to work with items of stationery that gets you down every day is not good for your health.
The biggest problem with stationery is that it is so often not very interesting. This makes your relationship with it less interesting and makes every day you have to use it more of a pain. This is a big problem because you should have a good relationship with your pens and paper so that you are a happier and more efficient employee. If you love what you are working with, you will have a better day and will be able to put more into your working life.
So what can you do to improve your relationship with your office supplies?
Colourful
One thing you can do is to replace all your stationery with more visually appealing items. There is such a huge choice available from catalogues and online that it will be easy for you to turn your drab grey and black stapler and mouse mat into a rainbow of colours. This will make you more likely to enjoy picking things up and make every second of your day that little bit more appealing.
Customise
If you can’t afford, or your box won’t stump up for new stationery, you should seriously consider customizing your telephone and your keyboard yourself. A cheap pack of stickers or some pictures of loved ones are great additions to items that sit in your eye line. They give something extra to what before was a drab plain surface.
More Expensive
If you have a particularly generous stationery budget you might like to really splash out on your every day stationery. Make sure you have a fancy printer/scanner/fax machine to start with, as well as ergonomically optimised office chairs and desk then start selecting only the very best pens, paper, computer accessories and alike until you have an office packed full of premium stationery items. This will ensure that everything is stylish and reliable to use and that when new people join your team they will immediately have a good relationship with their work tools.
Never underestimate the importance of the little things at work as they will have a niggling effect on your work life as a whole if they are not addressed.
